Each year Health 2.0 has a large Fall conference in San Francisco, and a smaller themed “Spring Fling” somewhere else.
Health 2.0 started with a bang. Our first conference was a sold-out day in San Francisco, (September 20, 2007) where some 40 speakers and some 20 live demos of user-generated healthcare (search, communities and tools) wowed the crowd. Maybe it was beginners luck, but that conference had some of the best ratings we’ve ever heard of for any event–and we’ve been trying to live up to (and exceed!) its reputation ever since!
The first Spring Fling was themed about Connecting Patients and Providers, and was held in San Diego on March 3-4, 2008. At the conference, the Health 2.0 Accelerator was born in a kick-off meeting. We had a series of demos from companies using Health 2.0 tools to connect consumers with providers and insurers. And 400 people enjoyed a wonderful Night Out on the San Diego skyline.
For Fall 2008 we returned with two full days in San Francisco on October 22-23. An overflow crowd of more than 1,000 people saw over 100 presenters on the main stage and in 16 breakouts, numerous product launches, wide-ranging discussions from senior health care leaders, a special design session led by IDEO, and the announcement of a new social movement about end of life care called Engage With Grace.
For the Spring Fling in Boston, held on April 22-23, 2009, we joined with our friends at the Center for Information Therapy in a conference entitled Health 2.0 Meets Ix (well they called it Ix Meets Health 2.0!). There were a series of “great debates” about the contrasts and the similarities between Health 2.0, which tends to be more patient and technology led, and Information Therapy, which tends to have a slightly more authoritative institutional bent. 500 attendees heard the great debates, had a great night out at the top of the Prudential Tower, saw some 30 product demos, and overall concluded that Health 2.0 and Ix make for a great combination.
Back in San Francisco on October 6-7, Health 2.0’s 2009 annual conference saw 1,000 attendees thrash out the topics of meaningful use between the “cats and dogs”, see the introduction of a series of Health 2.0 tools for physicians, and view a series of incredible product introductions at Launch! Health 2.0 is clearly the place for new innovative product introduction, and the venue for innovation in health care thinking.
In 2010, we’ll be showing even more innovation and having more great discussions at four conferences.
